Can Children try Little Aths before joining?

Yes, we have two Come & Try Sessions / Registration days. These are planned for Saturday 13th & 20th of September, 2008

How much does Little Athletics cost?

Registration for the 2007/2008 season was $80 per child for the first and second child and $65 for the third and any further children in the family. This covers the Track and Field season only. The fees for 2008/2009 will be updated shortly.

A $15 levy payable for each family on registration. This ensures that St John Ambulance is available on each competition day to assist with any medical emergencies.

When can I join Little Athletics?

The Little Athletic year begins in October and runs through to the following September. You can register at any time during the athletic year providing you are between the age of 5 and 14.

You must be 5 years of age to join.

How do I know what age group I will compete in?

Age groups are determined by the year and month of birth. Please use the Ready Rekoner below to work out the appropriate age group for the 2008/2009 season.

Please note, proof of age will be required on registration.

a name="events">What events are the children likely to do?

Children are likely to participate in a selection of different events from the list below that rotate on a 3 week cycle

  • Sprints (70m, 100m, 200m),
    Middle distance depending on age group (400m, 800m),
    Long Distance again dependant on age group (1500m) running.

  • Hurdles depending on age (60m, 80m 300m)

  • Long Jump/Triple Jump/High Jump

  • Shot Put/Discus

  • Relays

  • Cross Country

  • Javelin for (Under 12 - Under 15 only)

  • On Track - program held for U6 - U8.

Where are the events held?

Generally, all events are held at the
Toomuc Recreation Reserve, Princes Hwy, Pakenham.

We also attend other Centres for Open Days and Invitation Day. Regional & State Championships are held in various places across Victoria.

What time does the program run? /How long is it?

Competition day is usually Saturday, starting about 9:00am, with a bit of a warmup for the kids, before they get stuck into the program. Children need to signed in from 8:30am prior to competing.

We finish anywhere between 10:30am and 11:30am depending on the program and the age of the children. For the older children the program usually runs a little longer.

We have some Twilight meets during the year, generally these are on either a Thursday or Friday night and begin at around 4:30pm.

Cross Country signing starts at 8:30am, with the first run at 9:00am. If you have finished running you are welcome to leave, generally, Cross Country will finish about 10:30am.

How long is the season?

Track & Field runs from Early September till late March, with the Presentation Night and AGM taking place in April.

Cross Country runs from April through to August

  • Competition day is usually Saturday morning, however some country Centres participate on a weeknight. The children participate in a selection of different events that rotate on a 3 or 4 week cycle. A Summer morning program would usually begin 8:30 to 9.00 a.m. and finishes around 12 noon, with the younger age groups finishing earlier. During the Winter Cross Country season, the program is around 1½ hours long. Usually at the local Athletic Track which may have a grass or composite surface. Cross country is usually held at an appropriate local location.How long is the season? The Track and Field season begins in mid September and runs through until around Easter. It is usual for a break to occur from Christmas until mid to late January Cross Country begins around April/May and runs through to July

    In the event of inclement weather, parents and children can phone the Centre on 5941 1378 after 8:00am on the morning of competition to obtain up to date information regarding the morning activities.
